Picture-CDs and Picture-DVDs at www.film2disk.com use uncompressed TIFF (TIF) formatted files for the archived images. Our Picture-CD and Picture-DVD also contains JPEG (JPG) compressed images in various sizes so you will be able to email or publish in e-documents right out of the box. The TIFF archived images are uncompressed and therefore have maximum resolution and quality retained. For the JPGs, we use a medium amount of compression to have a high picture quality in a much smaller file.
"Joint Photographic Experts Group"
- JPEG/JFIF is an ISO standard which defines a file compression method for color and gray scale photographic pictures. JPEG picture compression is very popular on the internet today because of its great flexibility in a speed vs. compression trade-off. Large compression occurs which can speed-up the loading of a web page but some picture quality is sacrificed.
